-What are those spots on Jupiter? Largest and furthestjust right of center, is the Great Red Spot -- huge storm system that has been raging on Jupiter possibly since Giovanni Cassini's likely notation of it 355 years ago.+Graceful star trail arcs reflect planet Earth's daily rotation in this colorful night skyscape. To create the timelapse composite, on May 12 consecutive exposures were recorded with a camera fixed to a tripod on the shores of the Ashokan Reservoirin the Catskills region of New YorkUSA. North star Polaris is near the center of the star trail arcs. The broad trail of waxing crescent Moon is on the left, casting a strong reflection across the reservoir waters. With intense solar activity driving recent geomagnetic storms, the colorful aurora borealis or northern lights, rare to the region, shine under Polaris and the north celestial pole.

-It is not yet known why this Great Spot is redThe spot toward the lower left is one of Jupiter's largest moonsEuropaImages from Voyager in 1979 bolster the modern hypothesis that Europa has an underground ocean and is therefore a good place to look for extraterrestrial life. But what about the dark spot on the upper right? That is shadow of another of Jupiter's large moons: Io. Voyager 1 discovered Io to be so volcanic that no impact craters could be found.+ AuroraSaurus: Report your aurora observations
